Happy Anniversary, Sweetheart!

On this day, two years ago, I turned a page in this book that we call Life. It all started with a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Sounds strange, but it’s true. My husband and I spent a lot of our pre-dating time at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. I guess this was because it was open late and we could be entertained without spending much money as we were young and broke. I loved standing there with him watching the doughnut making process. Many found memories were made standing in front of the glass, side by side, watching the lumps of dough became a delectable treat. It only seemed fitting that these wonderful morsels became a part of our story.

:::: magical music starts as it takes us back in time ::::

I remember it clearly. It was January 28th, 2005. We were going to have a movie night at my apartment, or so I thought. I was sitting on the couch reading while I waited for Daniel to show up. I finally hear a knock on the door and go to let him in. There he stood with some of our favorite treats, a box of Krispy Kremes, held closely to his chest. I asked to take them from him and put them in the kitchen. He wouldn’t let me. I asked two or three times and each time, he responded, “No. Go sit back down on the couch.” Confused, I returned to the couch.

He followed behind me but didn’t sit with me. Instead, he turned the box and placed it in my lap. Even more confused, I looked at the top. This was no ordinary box of doughnuts. There was a message on this one. It read, “Choose your doughnut with your heart. Which one will you choose?” Puzzled, I opened the box. Inside sat nine doughnuts written on with orange icing, my favorite color. With a word to each treat, I read, “Ariel, will you marry me? Bite Yes or No.” I look at Daniel who had knelt down beside me holding a ring box. I, of course, picked up the ‘Yes’ doughnut and took a big bite!

As the excitement of an engagement ensued, we settled in to make our plans. Our original wedding date, 7/9/05, threw too much chaos into our lives and we wanted to enjoy this time and not be overwhelmed. Throughout that year, we bought a new car, I moved, Daniel started a new school, I started a new position at work, all the while, planning a wedding. Chaos reigned supreme that summer and fall. As Christmas approached, we were excited to be spending our last Christmas together as singles. We anxiously awaited the coming of May.

:::: magical music starts again to bring us to May 2006 ::::

Finally, May has arrived and wedding plans are in full swing. Between planning those final touches and attending wedding showers, we were quite busy. The outpouring of help from our friends was greatly appreciated. Sarah hemmed my dress, baked our cakes, and was there countless hours for support when I needed advice or someone to talk to. Mandy and her mom travelled two and a half hours and arrived a few days early to help gather things and finish those final touches.

The morning of May 27th, 2006 finally arrived. Surprisingly, I wasn’t nervous. I got up early as Wendy and Jessica were coming at eight to fix my hair. By 10:30, I was at the church and putting the final touches on my make-up and dress. We got our ‘before wedding’ pictures taken and were stored away in the library to await our walks down the aisle. Sitting in that library, I remember being so ready to get the show on the road. We sat there for an hour. I read to our flower girls, Molly and Hannah. My bridesmaids munched on some treats someone had thoughtfully brought in. I saw visitors such as my grandmothers, my aunt, and several of my friends.

As 1:30 approached, we glanced over everything to make sure all was ready. When the music for the slide show started playing, we went to the hallway. As we listened to the music Daniel and I had selected, I was grateful to be busy consoling Hannah so she didn’t panic about her walk down the aisle. That way I didn’t have to think too much about not crying myself. She, and I, regrouped and were soon ready for the journey. However, my brother, Craig, about untied the knot on my tears when he hugged me, crying, before I walked down the aisle.

As the music played, my bridesmaids and flower girls begin their walk. One by one, they walked to the front of the church. As the music changed, the doors were opened and my father and I walked through. I had heard it said that you saw no one but your husband. I must admit, that’s exactly what happened. I didn’t even notice the guests, sorry guys! I do remember the forever long aisle though and how anxious I was to reach the end. Before I knew it, my father was handing me over to Daniel and we were being announced husband and wife.

The journey to this day seemed to last a lifetime yet it was over in the blink of an eye. I was married! I know I walked around in a haze through the reception. I remember the cake and barely tasting it after my mother and her friend had slaved so long. I remember the frozen diet Ale8 that we toasted with and hardly being able to get any out of the bottle. I remember the many many hugs that we received. I remember Daniel’s arm around me as pictures were taken, many many pictures. I remember the frustration at discovering the smelly concoction they had planted in his car. I remember the bubbles as we left the church. I remember finally getting back home and being able to hold onto Daniel without interruptions. Ah, at last, we were married!

:::: magical music fades away and brings us back to present day ::::

I love my husband. I love being married. Sometimes it seems like it was so long ago and other times, like it was just yesterday. He has the ability to make me furious but he also has an innate ability to calm me down, put me at easy, and believe it or not, make my headaches go away. He can be playful or serious or anywhere in between. He is the love of my life. I really cannot imagine going through life without him. He is my anchor. As corny as it sounds, my favorite place in the universe is in his arms.

Daniel, you may never read this but I want you to know how much I’ve enjoyed these past two years. We have made many great memories. I so look forward to the many years to come and the memories that they hold. I can’t wait to buy our first house together, have our first child and any others that come, and grow old with you. Thank you for everything that you mean to me. I love you!!

Still chuckling about it...

Last night, my brother was forgetful. Dinner was going to be ready at seven, my parents were lifting weights and William suddenly remembers, "Oh, I have youth group tonight!". This announcement throws their house into turmoil because he hasn't eaten and youth group starts at 6:30. Oh, did I mention this was 6:15? Luckily for him, I was in town and called at just the right time to be able to offer to pick him up. I got a wonderful lasagna meal out of it too!! Yummy. Sorry, back to the story. I pull up in front of the house and call to tell him I'm waiting. He comes out and as he's getting into my car, I realize, he has his hand over his left eye. "What's wrong with you?" My brother, at 14, is at the very least 6'2". He had succeeded somehow in running into the tree in my parents house with, get this, his eye. ::sigh:: Go figure. Totally not funny yet funny at the same time. I mean seriously, who else do you know had gotten a tree branch in their eye?? I'm willing to bet, um... no one! So after I get the story from him, I start asking questions and giving orders. "Don't rub it, blink. Keep your eye closed. Stop rubbing it." As I ask him, "Can you see okay out of it?" He closed his right eye and looked out the window, "Yeah, I think so..." As he turned to look at me, "Whoa! You look horrible!" Ha ha kiddo! Look who ran into the tree!! I'm still laughing about it!
On another note, I got to spend some time with my mom yesterday. Granted, it wasn't time to be able to sit and talk and shoot the wind but I got to see her! I helped out with what I could, and that included eating some of that delicious lasagna! It amazes me all that she's doing. I know I have taken the job of a policer officer for granted. I've only ever thought of them pulling people over, directing traffic, arresting people, and the like. I never cared to consider what it took to do their job. You have to memorize so much stuff, and not just remember it but know it inside and out so that you can put it into practice! Phenominal! And to have to learn all of it in ten months is a very tall order! To my mom and all the other police officers out there, I applaud you! Thank you for your sacrifices!!

New year reminders

It doesn't seem like long ago when I started this blog. It was in October so I guess technically, it hasn't been long. However, I've enjoyed the benefits that come with it. I love being able to know about the lives of my cousins and aunts in a way that I hadn't before. Since I've started blogging, my mother has joined in as have two of my sisters. I've had a few friends join in as well. It's wonderful to my way of thinking!
I have a link for each blog on my side bar but I have a new one to add and wanted to make sure that everyone knew what was out there! Enjoy!
Bio-Girl Cousin
There are several other blogs that I read religiously but this will get you started. If you read this blog and didn't see your name on the list, let me know! I'd love to have your blog address!
Best wishes for a fun year of blogging in 2008!

Sweet Molly

So serious!

I promise she's not upset, just unaware that I had taken a picture!

This picture was taken seconds later. I'd post the one where Molly was smiling with a beautiful huge smile, but unfortunately it's kinda blurry. =\ She's so sweet!

A Merry Christmas indeed!

I have had a wonderful Christmas that started on Friday at work. We had a Christmas lunch courtesy of Dr. B. They also brought us beautiful candles with pretty 'lamp shades' for them. I'm sure there is a technical term for them but I'm not sure what it is. Sunday we had Daniel's family Christmas at his parent's house. His grandparents and cousins and Aunt and Uncle were there. That was quite a bit of fun. We watched home videos and got to laugh at the cousins and how they changed or in some cases, haven't.

Monday brought more family time. It was very side in the fact that this was our first Christmas without Megan and Silas. =\ Didn't enjoy that part of it very much. We met up about 3:30 for lunch and gifts. We had everyone but Megan and Silas and Daniel wasn't able to get there until he got off work at five (stupid retail). Had a lot of fun though!

Sisterly love!

Cutie!

Such a pretty couple!

Right before I started sneezing my head off.... =\
Oh Megan, how I wish you were here....

Merry Christmas everyone!

Proud new parents doing a great job

After that we went to our friend's house, James and Keri's, and snacked and watched "A Christmas Carol". When we came home we read the Christmas story from Luke and went to bed. Christmas morning brings cinnamon rolls and our gifts to each other. Daniel's so sweet. He bought me a beautiful necklace.

Love that guy! After our Christmas at home we went to his parent's house for their Christmas with us. I received a new stereo for my car which I am supremely excited about. Now I'll be able to plug in my MP3 player! Yippie! Daniel got Rock Band for his 360. It's awesome!

Similar to the more popular Guitar Hero, Rock Band allows you to play all the parts. There is a drum set, guitar, and microphone. It's a whole lot of fun!

Shoo... too much partying!

I promise....

I promise I haven't falled off the face of the earth. I'm still here! I have just been really busy. Let's see, my last post was on Friday. I work 10 hours each on Saturday and Sunday. I'm training someone new at work this week because I'm leaving. Yep, ya heard right. I got a new job. My last day is Friday. I'm really going to miss everyone at the hospital. I've worked there for over four years, they're like family. However, I'm really excited about my new job!! I'll be working with kiddos! Yippie! Sick kiddos but kiddos nonetheless. So anyway, on top of being super busy and tired, my Internet at home has been sketchy lately so I haven't been able to get online. Most irritating. But I am alive and well.
New in my life:
  • New job, which I start on Monday, the 10th. This brings a lot of things. New way to work, new hours (8:00-4:30), new insurance, new people...
  • New niece, born on November 19th.
  • New job, for my mother which she starts on the 10th as well. Yippie! So excited for her! Congrats, Moma!
  • New school, for my husband for next semester. (He signed up for his classes today and thankful to was able to get into everything he needed! Will graduate 2009 (again)!
  • New school, for my best friend who just found out yesterday (Dec. 3rd) that she was in. YEA!! Congrats, Sarah F!
  • New releases for my sister, Anna, with her newly formatted music! Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/annacshepherd ! (They're available for purchase and WELL worth it!) Congrats Anna! I think you're awesome!
  • New plan of action for my foot, more on that later!

As you can see, there's a lot of changes going on around here. I'm feeling a bit discombobulated (hehehe, Dorothy!). But I really am enjoying it. I'm trying to think about how things are going to change when I switch jobs and it's going to be interesting. I'm already missing some people and I haven't even left yet. ::sigh:: I am really excited about it. I'm thinking working for Dr. B will be great. Everyone I've dealt with so far as been wonderful. So here's hopin'. You know I'll keep you updated.

More pictures!

Our first glimpse of her as Craig takes her to the nursery.

Proud new Papa!

She was a little ticked off about the whole bath thing.

I think she's going to be a thumb sucker!

Absolutely precious!

Looking right at the camera!

Stretch!

The brand new family!!!

Emmy's here!!!

I have 278 pictures. Let me shuffle through them and I'll post some more. Here's one to whet your appetite though!

She was born at 9:50 on 11/19/07. She weighs 7 lbs 1 oz. She is 19 1/2 inches long. Oh, and she's absolutely beautiful!!

They ended up having to do a c-section. Becky was dilated to 7 cm but the baby's heart rate went down so they have to go ahead with the c-section. Mom is doing well, tired after so long without food (3 days) and surgery. Baby is healthy and very content. Has hardly peeped! She didn't however enjoy her bath! I'll post those pictures later. She's adorable and I'm in love!

No baby yet...

I have my camera ready so as soon as we have pictures, I'll post them here. Stay tuned!

She's dilated to seven cm and they started the pitocin around six. We're just playing a waiting game now. Before too long we'll have a baby!

"Ah la, Peanut Butter Sandwiches!"

This wonderful quote provided by my lovely niece, Molly, and her brother, Jacob. Their mother came up Saturday for their Aunt Becky’s baby shower. They were going to stay at Mimi’s house for five days! Both parties involved were quite excited. I was there on Sunday because I had left the fabulous drawing that Molly had made me the night before. These two are so funny! Molly just turned seven in August and Jacob is five as of Oct. 1st. Adorable children!

Back to the peanut butter sandwiches… Molly has this lovely princess fairy wand. In the midst of playing, she’d pick it up and turn us into something else. “Ah la, peanut butter sandwiches, turn her into a guitar!” Of course, this was what I turned them into so that I could tickle them with no mercy under the guise that I was trying to play my guitar. I was many things that day. She took the liberty to turn me into a guitar, a cat, and a pencil to name a few. Jacob’s favorite was to turn me into a button.

There’s never a dull moment with those two and they can always make you laugh. I don’t see them nearly enough because they live an hour and a half away from my home. As I had mentioned, Jacob just turned five. The little rascal read me a book Saturday with little help from me. When did I give him permission to grow up? And Molly is learning to play the piano, taught by her extremely talented Aunt Anna. They really grow up so quickly. The oldest cousin, Silas, turned eight years old in September. I don’t get to see him much either as he lives in North Carolina with his mom, Megan. If you want to talk about a smart child! Nothing gets past him and he has maturity beyond his years. I love my nephews and niece! With another one on the way, I can honestly say that I LOVE being an aunt!

I come from a family of six children. Megan is the oldest followed by Anna, Rosie, Craig, me, with William bringing up the rear. Life was never dull in my childhood years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My husband is an only child and doesn’t know what he missed. It’s an amazing thing to be able to go with your sisters out to eat just because as we did Saturday night. These events don’t happen as often as we’d like as we do lead busy lives an hour and a half apart. However, when they do happen, I cherish every moment! I love getting together with them for the holidays! With our respective spouses, our family gatherings have grown by leaps and bounds. Add in the kiddos and this Thanksgiving and Christmas will mean that we’ve grown to 16 people strong. I’m lovin’ it!
