Nearest and Dearest

Today marks a very special day. On this day, 22 years ago, my best friend, Sarah, was born. This very special person came into my life twelve years ago this month. When I was eleven, I went to the camp that her family owned. This quiet girl befriended me and showed me the ropes. Every summer, I went back to that camp for a week. When I was old enough, I came back as a counselor for the younger groups too. I have many fond memories of camp. But most of all, I'm thankful that it brought me to Sarah.

Over the years, our friendship has been many things. At the beginning she was just an acquaintance who was nice enough to introduce the new girl to others. Today, she is my closest friend. One that I run to with joys and sorrows, hurts and happiness. We've laughed together. We've cried together. In a roundabout way, we've grown up together. Though she has always lived at least two hours away from me, the distance hasn't hurt our friendship. I believe it has made it stronger.

Sarah is many things. But to me, she's my best friend. So today, on your birthday, Sarah, have a blast! Know that I think the world of you and I'm so glad to call you my friend. I hope you have a fabulous birthday!!!
